A lovely camp at Lake Desolation, New York.
Located just 10 miles from Saratoga, N.Y; which is home to the Saratoga Race Track, and the Performing Arts Center.
Lake Desolation sits atop a mountain in the foothills of the Adirondak's. It is a nice size lake, but not overwhelming. It supports swimming, fishing, and boating. The surrounding woods, features a State snowmobile trail and some of the best hunting in the State. It is only a few miles to the Great Scanandaga Lake which is on the other side of the mountain.

Lake Desolation is a small community of mostly summer residents, although some folks do live there year round. The temperature is usually about 10 degrees cooler then it is in Saratoga and Albany. Close by is a nice restaurant which was recently featured in a story in the Albany Times Union. The nearby Lake Desolation volunteer Fire Department holds community steak and chicken roasts, which are always well attended and enjoyed by all.

About the Camp

Originally built sometime in the 1920s, and completely re-built about 9 years ago. The building when purchased about 10 years ago contained 8 small rooms with suspended ceilings. The re-building included the removal of the exterior, raising the pitch of the roof, and installing a new enameled metal roof, adding insulation and texture 111 siding, also insulated windows in the front room. The interior was gutted, walls removed and opened up to now contain 2 rooms, plus a full bath, with a cathedral ceiling in the front room. The walls and ceilings are full knotty pine boards (not paneling). A new 100 amp electric service was added, and new sub floors with wall to wall carpeting installed. Both rooms have electric heat.

The front room has 2 large chandelier's that hang from the cathedrial ceiling.
The parlor or living room area has 2 Brazilian rosewood sofa's which open to sleep 2 on each. A chrome and glass etagere and stand, plus a coffee table and rocker. A brick fireplace adds a cozy feeling to the room. A sliding glass door opens to a small deck with a view of the lake, which is approximately 4 or 5 hundred feed away.
A dining area to the left of the front entrance, with a round glass top table and 4 chairs, and an antique glass chandelier above, at left is an antique copper dry sink, which is used as a flower box.
The kitchen area contains a refrigerator, apartment size stove, microwave, and double sink, which were all purchased new at the time of rebuilding, as were the kitchen cabinets, island breakfast bar, stools, and counter top's. Above the island bar is an antique iron rack for hanging pots and pans.

The bedroom also with knotty pine walls and ceiling, contains a queen size waterbed, dresser, bookcase, desk, etc. There is a small walk-in closet off of the bedroom, which also houses the hot water heater. The bathroom has a full bath, shower, sink, and toilet.

There is a dug well, which you cannot run dry, and septic. The kitchen is the only unit not hooked to the septic system, it empties in the ground away from the building, but could easily be connected to the septic system.
We purchased the camp next door about 6 years ago, and moved it to the back of the property, where it is now used as a storage shed, with 2 oversized custom doors and ramps installed, so that a riding mower can be driven inside.
Over the years we obtained and built a stone wall across the back and one side of the property.

The building is currently for use in summer, but to make it usable year round, you need only bring the water pump inside. It could be installed in the walk-in closet, where the water heater is located.
